About

What is The Unwaste?

The Unwaste is a milkman style refill service covering parts of Merseyside. We supply eco friendly houshold liquids in reusable packaging to reduce household waste from laundry, cleaning and personal care products. We also offer a range of eco friendly household essentials with a common theme of reducing waste.

Who manufactures the household liquids?

Our primary supplier of our refillable household liquids is Miniml. They are an independent, family owned business who manufacture the liquids in the Yorkshire Dales. We also supply a small range of items made on the Wirral by Blooming Eco. Both of our suppliers operate a fully closed loop system meaning they take back all their bulk containers so they can be used over and over again. Both suppliers pride themselves on their plant based ingredients which are vegan friendly and cruelty free and are kinder for us humans and for our planet.

Are your products eco-friendly?

Yes absolutely! The household liquids made by Miniml and Blooming Eco are made with the environment in mind. They use naturally derived ingredients, are biodegradable, vegan friendly, cruelty free and all of their packaging is reused to reduce waste. The accessories we sell are carefully selected to bring you eco friendly alternatives of every day items in a bid to help reduce waste and protect our planet.

What is closed loop?

When we say closed loop, we mean that we supply items which can be returned to us so they can be used again. This applies to the refill bottles we supply but also to the bulk containers we buy from our suppliers, they stay in the system and are used over and over again like a continuous loop. This is also know as a circular economy, unlike a linear economy where things are thrown away once used, a circular economy aims to use supplies over and over. Closed loop supply and circular economies are becoming more popular these days as people are becoming more conscious about the impact we are having on our planet.

Why has my liquid gone cloudy and separated?

If you’ve bought refills from us since mid May, Miniml’s liquids contain a different type of natural thickening agenct, which, when mixed with the old thickening agent they used to use has a funny reaction and turn cloudy and starts to separate. This might have happened if you’ve mixed your new refill with some of the previous one. It still works ok but just looks a bit odd. If you’re not happy please get in touch and we do our best to resolve. Thanks for understanding.

Are liquid refills vegan?

Yes! Our suppliers Miniml and Blooming Eco don’t use any animal derived ingredients in their products.

Are liquid refills cruelty free?

Do I have to wait until I have an empty bottle before I order a new one?

No not at all, in fact we encourage you to order refills before you run out in case you have to make an emergency trip to the shops and buy plastic bottles! We don’t keep a record of bottles as it would be too much admin work to do so. We hope that our customers care enough about the planet that they will want to see their packaging reused.

Do I get a deposit back for the bottles I return?

No, we decided not to run a bottle deposit scheme as there would too much admin work involved. Plus it is actually cheaper to buy new bottles than to wash and sterilise used ones, so we would have to put prices up if we did this. We believe our customers are just happy to see their bottles and containers being used again so will return them without needing a financial incentive.

How do I return the bottles to you?

We proudly take back empty glass bottles and plastic jerry cans so they can be reused to prevent waste. To reduce our carbon footprint we prefer to collect empties when we deliver your future orders, rather than make a special trip. Please ensure bottles are rinsed and please leave the caps on if you still have them thanks!

What if I decide I don't want to use The Unwaste any more?

Obviously we’d be sad to see you go but we will still take back your empty bottles, just contact us and we’ll arrange collection when we’re next in the area.

Do I need dispensers?

Our household liquid refills are supplied in glass bottles or plastic jerry cans which are intended for decanting purposes into appropriate containers (we recommend ones which have been used for the same type of product to avoid contamination and should have appropriate labelling including hazard/safety warnings). We do recommend decanting refills into appropriate containers at home, you’ll find it’s easier to use the products around the home and you might prefer not having glass bottles around the house in case of an accident. We recommend using containers you already have at home but ones which have been used for the same type of product to avoid contamination, these will also have appropriate labelling including hazard/safety warning.  If you don’t have any you can re-use you can check out our range of dispensers and pre-filled containers in our shop.

What if I want to cancel or change my order?

How can I pay?

We use Stripe to process our payments at checkout, you can pay with all major credit and debit cards.
